We were born to suffer.
"Rozen maiden" is unbelievable original anime. Another underrated story, which is it turned out a hidden gem for me. I have been impressed by a mystic atmosphere that resembles a renaissance and is combined with some cute things. Especially, I liked the setting of this anime where the main characters are dolls.
The story narrates Jun Sakurada, a hikikomori who spends most of his time sitting on the computer and ordering mysterious items from the internet. He returns these items when he needs to pay for them. It is a kind of weird hobby. One day he opens a strange website where is written a text: "wind up" and "not wind up" he thinks that it is a joke and selects "wind up." After that, he gets a postal parcel which has a doll and a winding key. When he winds up the doll she comes alive and calls herself "Shinku, the fifth Rozen Maiden doll." Also, she gives a slap him.
A total of seven dolls were created by master Rozen. The main plot is around Alice's game. Despite all dolls being sisters they have to fight among themselves for the right to become Alice. "Alice" is an image of the perfect doll who will please their father. They have to take away a "mystical rose" which does a doll alive just like a soul. When you get the mystic rose, you become more powerful, and when you collect all the mystical roses, you become Alice, who will meet her father. Anyway, each doll wants to meet her creator even though not all dolls want to fight among themselves. I also liked the idea that each doll is imperfect, and they can become perfect only in the image of Alice. Fortunately, they finally understood that fighting is not the only way to become Alice.
What can I talk about dolls? I liked all of them. The first Rozen Maiden doll is called "Suigintou." She is one of my favorite dolls. Also, in the series, she is one of the main antagonists. She has silver hair color and wears a black dress. She is strong and uses feathers as a weapon. She has unfinished and therefore has "bad" behavior. Also, she is very proud. Nevertheless, I imbued her story and understood her motives. I liked the story when Suigintou met Megu. Megu is a terminally ill girl who agreed to become Suigintou medium though she can die because of this. Megu resembles Suigintou because she is also "unfinished" just like Suigintou. Moreover, Megu thinks that Suigintou is an angel who someday takes her life, which will make her happy. I think that these thoughts eventually change Suigintou. It shows that Suigintou is not evil.
The second doll is called "Kanaria." She is a very eccentric nature.
It seemed to me that she is arrogant because thinks that she is smarter than others dolls. She tries to steal her sisters' mystical roses but always fails, and it creates a lot of comical situations. She has a green hair color and wears a yellow dress. Also, she has an umbrella and can fly around at will. Even though sometimes she reminds a clown she is a strong fighter. In the fight, she plays differents battle melodies on his violin, which uses as a weapon.
The thirth doll is called "Suiseiseki". It was hard for me to read this name from subtitles every time. Suiseiseki is one of the twin sisters. She is a very insidious and vengeful character, but the series gradually shows us that she has a kind of heart. She has a brown hair color, different eye colors, and she wears a fluffy green dress. Uses watering can for flowers as a weapon.
The fourth doll is called "Souseiseki." Another hard-to-reading name. She is the twin sister of Suiseiseki. She is patient and serious. She also has brown hair colors and different eye colors (reversed). She looks like a boy due to her clothes and nature. She uses garden scissors as a weapon.
The fifth doll is called "Shinku." She is another of my favorite dolls. She is the other protagonist. She has yellow hair color and blue eyes. She wears a red dress decorated with roses. She acts like an England princess and loves tea with milk. Usually, she is demanding and rectilinear, and because of this, it seems she is rude and cruel. It is not True and further series will prove, which is Shinku's kind and sensitive nature, even though she thinks that her medium June is her servant. Also, she likes show TV series "detective Kun-Kun" which is about a dog detective. As a weapon, she uses rose petals. She is a strong doll.
The sixth doll is called "Hinaichigo." She is naive as a child. She is a cute doll and makes a lot of funny moments. She has light brown hair color, and she wears a pink dress.
The seventh doll is called "Kirakishou." She is another "villainess." She has no real body, and she lives in N-field. As a weapon using a vine.
This anime raises bullying problems. I was impressed how Shinku gradually helped June get rid of his psychological issues. Also, this anime raises the problem of choice. Especially, it good shows in the third season, when June has many possibilities, but he constantly doubting. He does not know what to select. The story talks about the fact that the past cannot be changed, and you have to look into the future to accept both.
I think the moral of the story is you may have flaws, but these flaws are an integral part of you.
I will miss these dolls. It is time to read the manga.
